Flash memory
Flash memory is solid-state, electronic memory with no moving parts. Small and light, with fast information retrieval, they are ideal for devices like digital cameras and video game consoles.

Some of the main consumer Flash memory modules are SmartMedia and CompactFlash.
Flash cards are taking over - in fact the only reason that they're not used for everything is simply because of cost. For the moment at least, mechanical hard drives are cheaper and have far larger capacity, but that is changing fast.
