PS2 memory cards
Playstation 2 uses only official Sony PS2 Memory Cards. They are based on Flash technology, can store up to 8Mb of data and feature MagicGate encryption. They have much speedier data transmission - 200 times faster than the memory cards used with the original Playstation - and have a larger storage capacity than the original Playstation cards (the original PS1 cards were only 128Kb), but are of course minuscule compared to the Gb Flash cards available today for other digital equipment.

Sony PS2 Memory Cards are available in a range of colors including blue, black, red, silver and aqua. Non-Sony manufactured PS2 memory cards are also available, for example those made by Max Memory. Although they are available in sizes far larger than Sony's 8Mb - up to 64Mb - there are reports that these non-official memory cards are unreliable and will not work with all games. We recommend buying the proprietary Sony cards.)
