External LOC | Individuals believe that what happens to them is due to external forces such as luck/ fate or other people. Therefore have no personal control over their behavior. These people are less likely to remain independent and are more likely to conform. |
Internal LOC | Individuals that beleive they have personal control over their own behavior. These people are more likely to remain independent and less likely to conform. |
Prosocial behavior | Behavior that is desirable by society, it is behavior that is deemed helpful or kind |
Antisocial behavior | Behavior that goes against social norms. It is deemed unhelpful or agressive |
Social norms | Behavior deemed as expected or acceptable by society |
Deindividuaion | A loss of personal self-awareness and responsibility as a result of being part of a group |
Bystander effect | Also known as bystander apathy. Failing to help others in need, because it is believed others will help instead (a group’s presence creates diffusion of responsibility). |

Identification | Temporarily adopting the behaviors of a role model or group. A person will change their behavior and beliefs while in the company of the group. But this only lasts as long as the group is present. |
Internalisation | Going along with the majority because we do not know how to behave in a situation. We adopt the beliefs of the group. |
Authoritarian personality | A type of personality that is respectful of authority, right Wing in attitude and rigid in beleifs |
