QuestionAnswer
What are Carbohydrate? How are they Made? How are they Broken down?-Carbohydrates are just Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen [Organic Compounds] -Monomers, like Maltose, Fructose or Glucose, Join up Together to make a Polymer - Starch [Type of Carbohydrate] -And Starch can be Broken down into Simple Sugars again. Its Reversible -Carbohydrates are Broken down, or Eaten, by Enzymes in the Mouth & Small Intestine.
What are Proteins? How are they Made? How are they Broken Down?-Proteins are just Long Chains of Monomers that are Amino Acids [Protein Synthesis] -Amino Acids, and therefore Proteins, contain Carbon, Nitrogen, Hydrogen and Oxygen. -Proteins are Broken down by Enzymes in the Stomach and the Small Intestine
What are Lipids? How are they Made? How are they Broken Down?-Lipids are just MADE of Glycerol and 3 Fatty Acids. [Fatty Acids are, shockingly, Acidic so the pH of the Solution they're in will get Lower] -They are NOT a Polymer as it doesn't have a Long Chain of Repeating Units -Lipids have the Elements: Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen -Lipids are Broken down by Enzymes in the Small Intestine
Why can Carbohydrates, Proteins and Lipids be Used for Respiration?-Them being Broken down will Release Energy that can be Stored as ATP - and the Whole Point of Respiration is Energy.
