What is correlation? | The relationship between 2 variables, this can be positive, negative or 0. There is no IV to manipulate only co-variables. |
What are extraneous or confounding variables called in a correlation study? | Intervening variables |
What is a negative correlation? | If one goes up, the other goes down |
What is a positive correlation? | If one goes up, then the other goes up |
What is correlation coefficient? | The closeness of the correlation is described using a correlation co-effeicient, the range is -1.0 to + 1.0 |
What is curvilinear correlations? | Some relationships are more complicated than positive or negative correlations, known as linear relationships. The correlation coefficient can't be states so it's 0. |
A strength? | It is a quick and easy method to use to see whether there is a relationship or not |
A strength? | It uses a precice number to express the strength of the relationship quickly - makes it clear and easy to understand |
A weakness? | Difficult to establish cause and effect, it is hard to say if the one co-variable is manipulating the other. Could be an interveneing variable |
A weakness? | Finding a correlation between variables tells little except that there is a relationship - the data could be misused and hard to make accurate conclusions |
