The venoms produces CARDIOVASCULAR CHANGES and CHANGES IN ACETYLCHOLINE RELEASE Clinical Problems: ○ BLEEDING, REDNESS, & SWELLING ○ LOCALIZED TISSUE CHANGES and NECROSIS ○ Severe envenomation may cause nausea and vomiting, changes in HEART RATE, VERTIGO and HEADACHE
CHILOPODA (CENTIPEDES)
Treatment for CHILOPODA (CENTIPEDES) 1 effective in REDUCING SWELLING in the area
○ Treatment is non specific Washing the area thoroughly with soap & cream 1 Hydrocortisone, Diphenhydramine, and Tetracaine
SECRETION expelled from SIDES OF BODIES contain TOXIN OF BENZOQUINONE DERIVATIVES - COMPLEX SUBSTANCES such as IODINE & HYDROCYANIC ACID; PRODUCES HYDROGEN CYANIDE because they have HYDROCYANIC ACID - SPRAY VENOM as DEFENSE MECHANISM. - Cause BURNING or PRICKLING SENSATION and DEVELOPMENT of YELLOWISH OR BROWN-PURPLE LESION; Blister containing SEROSANGUINOUS FLUID FORMS, may rupture. Eye contact: ACUTE CONJUNCTIVITIS, PERIORBITAL EDEMA, KERATOSIS (benign skin growth), pain; such an injury MUST BE TREATED IMMEDIATELY.
