Loose connective tissue proper
Three types of loose connective tissue proper
Areolar connective tissue
Most common type of loose c.t.; is under epithelial tissue (base membrane)
Areolar connective tissue
Made of fat cells; insulates, protects, and stores energy
Adipose connective tissue
Works like a net: holds cells making up lymphatic system together
Reticular connective tissue
Three types of dense connective tissue proper
Dense regular C.T.
Collagen fibers, because organized in neat parallel rows, therefore have a lot of strength when pulled in the one direction they’re facing (ex:tendons, ligaments)
Dense regular C.T.
Not in organized pattern, collagen fibers run in many directions; because of this, can have strength when pulled in any direction
Dense irregular C.T.
The most elastic loose c.t.: it can stretch and revert to original size. It’s found in the walls of large arteries( so can pump large amounts of blood and go back to original size [ ex: high blood pressure])
Elastic C.T.
