musculoskeletal system function
forms the longitudinal axis of the body and consists of the bones of the skull, vertebral column, sternum and ribs, provides support and protection
the axial skeleton
consists of the bones of the pectoral (shoulder) and the pelvic (hip) girdles and upper & lower limbs. provides mobility for manipulation and locomotion
the appendicular skeleton

protects the brain and provides attachment for muscles that stabalize and move the head

11th and 12th ribs, cartilage is embedded in the muscles of the lateral body wall, dont come all the way around to the front
floating ribs
ribs 1-7 are connected all the way around to the sternum
true ribs
ribs 8-10 are connected indirectly to the sternum by cartilage
false ribs

think flat bone that forms the shoulder joint with the humerus and provides point of attachment for muscles
