Question:

Now what happens if Ball A had a mass of 0.08 kg which was moving towards Ball b at 9 m/s which had a mass off 360g. It was going the same direction as A at 3 m/s. After the collision, Ball A was stationary but Ball's B velocity was unknown. Find it out.

Answer:

First converge your units. 360g = 0.36 kg. Now we use the rule Total Momentum before = Total Momentum afterwards. To find out Total Momentum Before we do [0.08 x 9] + [0.36 x 3] = 1.8 kg m/s Use that equation and our Total Momentum afterwards is 1.8. Its not done yet Finding out Total Momentum After is: [0.08 x 0] + [0.36 x v²] = 0.36 x v² We rearrange the formula to look like Velocity = Momentum ----------------- Mass 1.8/0.36 = 5, which is the velocity
