Phytochrome is a soluble homodimer consisting of a polypeptide apoprotein (each subunit ~120kDa) covalently attached to a light absorbing pigment called the chromophore. PAS domains: protein interaction domains. The phytochrome chromophore is a linear tetrapyrole which is synthesized in the chloroplast.
