Of the 14 different lineages in SAR & ALO 6 were found in both libraries, & several genes cloned from the Sargasso were nearly identical to genes cloned from the Pacific population suggesting such uncultured groups are widely distributed in surface waters of subtropical oceans. a- proteobacteria: SAR1. γ-proteobacteria: SAR86.
