Advantages: • Same as oral, plus- • Can be administered for local effect • Rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream • Ensures greater drug potency Disadvantages: • If swallowed, drug can be inactivated by gastric juice • Must remain in the mouth against the mucus membrane until it dissolved & absorbed
