Adverse Reactions to Anti-infective therapy: 2: • - toxic effects on the cells lining the GI tract, causing nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea. • - death of the microorganism releases chemicals and toxins which can stimulate the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) in the medulla and induce nausea and vomiting. • - liver toxicity – can cause hepatitis and liver failure • - Ex: Cephalosporins- monitoring of any signs of liver dysfunctions and should be stopped at any sign of liver dysfunction.
