Is a chelating agent used in the treatment of Wilson’s disease (excess copper in the bloodstream). It is also used to chelate cystine in patients with cystinurea (predisposing the patient to cystine stones). Side effects include bone marrow suppression, taste distortion, anorexia, vomiting and diarrhea.
