Selective β1-receptor a synthetic, direct-acting catecholamine β1-receptor agonist It increases cardiac output (inotrope positive) with few vascular effects and with little change in heart rate 2. Therapeutic uses: increase cardiac output in congestive heart failure as well as for inotropic support after cardiac surgery. *does not significantly elevate oxygen demands of the myocardium (major advantage over other sympathomimetic drugs). (little change in heart rate) 3. Adverse effects: Tolerance may develop on prolonged use.
