DEFINITION A malignant tumor derived from hepatocytes frequently found in association with chronic liver disease, particularly cirrhosis. INCIDENCE Accounts for 80% of liver cancers, but < 2% of all cancers. Much more common in males (3:1) Usually diagnosed in the fifth or sixth decade. Greatest incidence in Asia and Africa
