➢ Osteomyelitis is difficult to treat and may require surgical drainage and antibiotic therapy. ➢ The most common causative organism is Staphylococcus aureus. ➢ Newborns may have Haemophilus influenzae and group B streptococcus infections ➢ Sickle cell anemia patients are at risk for Salmonella osteomyelitis. ➢ Patients with urinary tract infections and injection drug users are at risk for osteomyelitis with the species Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas and Klebsiella.
