Purpose of the tea act and colonial action (I.e Boston Tea Party)

Intended to support the British East India Company by allowing it to sell tea directly to the colonies at a lower price while keeping a tax on it. In response, colonists protested by staging the Boston Tea Party, where they dumped British tea into Boston Harbor to oppose the tax.
