Levetiracetam is approved for adjunct therapy of partial onset seizures, myoclonic seizures, and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and children. The exact mechanism of anticonvulsant action is unknown. It demonstrates high affinity for a synaptic vesicle protein (SV2A). The drug is well absorbed orally and excreted in urine mostly (66 percent) unchanged. The drug does not interact with CYP or UGT metabolism systems.
