Plant do not have caspases

Distantly related Metacaspases (MCs) and Vacuolar Processing Enzymes (VPEs) which lead the cascade have been ID’d in plants. MCs and VPEs have caspase activities and participate in plant PCD. Indicates convergent evolution of (similar) PCD pathways in plants and mammals
