Question:

How is remodeling of CT?

Author: H K

Answer:

After formation of scar, it is remodeled to increase strength and contraction, cross linking of collagen and size increase increases strength, shift of collagen from type III to type I (more resilient), may recover 70-80% normal skin in 3 months if well sutured skin wound. Wound contraction increases by myofibroblasts and later by cross-linking of collagen fibers. With time CT degrades and scar shrinks, accomplished by matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)
