The g-protein-linked-receptor is found on the membrane but what does it do when a signal molecule binds to the receptor?

When the right signal molecule comes along, it activated the g protein, which in turn can activate enzymes OR if it's a 'GTPase' it will shut the enzyme off or turn it back to its normal inactive state I should say
